The State Guard Association of the United States (SGAUS) Foundation is proud to recognize Hannah Ocon as this year’s scholarship recipient. A student at Grand Canyon University earning her bachelor’s degree, Hannah is a dedicated student and mother who embodies the core values of service, leadership, and perseverance. She is the spouse of Warrant Officer 1 Boyd D. Ocon with the Texas State Guard.

Balancing academic excellence with the demands of raising three children under the age of five, Hannah stands as a testament to resilience and determination. “Although I have not had the opportunity to pursue traditional work experience in the way many others have, I have developed strong transferable skills through the management of my household and academic responsibilities,” she shared.

Hannah’s leadership journey extends well beyond her home. She has served in key roles within her faith community, including as the president of the Young Women’s Organization and as a leader in the Primary Children’s Organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “This experience taught me how to inspire others, manage group dynamics, and balance competing needs to create a positive and enriching experience for all involved,” she said.

Her commitment to academic success is equally impressive. Recently invited to join the National Society for Collegiate Scholars, she has also earned a spot on the Dean’s List. These achievements reflect her dedication to maintaining high academic standards while managing multiple roles and responsibilities.

The SGAUS Foundation Scholarship, awarded annually to support the educational aspirations of State Guard members and their families, honors individuals like Hannah — those who demonstrate exceptional leadership, service, and drive.

With plans to continue her education and build a career that will allow her to support her children and make a meaningful impact in her community, Hannah represents the very best of the SGAUS community. The SGAUS Foundation is honored to support her journey and excited to see the future she builds.
