Message from Commandant of the MEMS Academy
SGM Fred Tredy (CA) The MEMS Academy is a premier emergency management training and certification program. Over the past 27 years the academy has been able to adjust to the demands of emergency management and offer an outstanding program which has been able to expand its outreach program from State Defense Force personnel to active-duty DOD military, Civilians in the EM field, students in military academies and universities and individuals who are seeking to expand their knowledge of emergency management. The concept of emergency management is an ever-changing arena, and the MEMS Academy has strived to not only keep up with those changes but to also look ahead to ways to create new avenues of interest in EM and the MEMS Academy. The success of this program has been accomplished with the dedication of the MEMS Academy Staff and the MEMS Academy State Directors currently serving in over 46 states and Territories. This is an outstanding training program, and we hope that you will join the 10,000 former MEMS Academy certificate members in providing your family, your community and your organization with the knowledge that the Academy will provide.

American College Conference Review and Updates |

Research Study on Leadership Effects |

CPT discussed a research study on leadership effects on job satisfaction among 1st responders in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, North and South Carolina, and Georgia. He requested participation from 1st responders, including military 1st responders, state Guard, and large-scale disaster responders. He also mentioned reaching out to Samaritan Purse, Rubicon, and Civil Air Patrol. Fred suggested including the Coast Guard and Civil Air Patrol in the study. CPT also mentioned plans to promote the study at the Louisiana Emergency Management Conference. Fred discussed the upcoming conference in Tampa, aiming to offer a 9/56 LNO class, requiring prerequisites. He emphasized the need for at least 10 qualified participants to ensure the class’s success. |

Team Updates and Future Conferences |

Captain from Louisiana and Lee Adler from Montana also shared their updates. The team also discussed the reorganization of the Texas State Guard and the upcoming L. 5 courses in Richmond, Texas. Specialist Henderson Cooper was introduced as a member of the team in California, and Major Mike from Alaska reported on their border security efforts.
