Welcome to the State Guard Association of the United States Search & Rescue Academy (SGAUS SAR). Our mission is clear: to establish a national standardized program with structured academic and hands-on practicum certifications.
Education is the Backbone of Successful Search and Rescue. SAR operations are critical in moments of crisis, assisting in locating and safely retrieving missing individuals or recovering their remains. However, the success of these operations relies heavily on the level of education and training received by the search and rescue responder.
Building expertise and specialized knowledge: Education equips search and rescue responders with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond effectively to emergencies. Proper training ensures that team members understand various rescue techniques. This specialized knowledge enables teams to make well-informed decisions and respond efficiently to emergencies, potentially minimizing risks and improving the chances of success.
National standards: Search and rescue missions are not limited by borders. In times of disasters or emergencies, mutual aid cooperation is often necessary. Certification programs provide standardized training, ensuring that professionals from different states can work together seamlessly. By adhering to national standards, certified individuals can contribute effectively to large scale search and rescue efforts, saving lives regardless of geographical boundaries.
Certification brings expertise: The field of search and rescue requires specialized knowledge and skills. By obtaining certification, professionals develop a comprehensive understanding of various aspects, such as navigation techniques, survival skills, emergency medical aid, and communication protocols. With this expertise, certified individuals can respond effectively and efficiently to emergencies, ensuring the best possible outcomes.
The SGAUS SAR program is based on ASTM standards and meets 14 National and International Standards of Compliancy. To name a few, DOD 3003.01, ASTM F-32, and NFPA 1006 and 1670. Partnered with FEMA and NASAR, this program is world class and has a place for everyone in the SGAUS family.
