Engineer Specialty Qualification Designation (ESQiD)
Program Overview
The Engineer Specialty Qualification Designation (ESQiD) program defines the critical key elements and documented acceptable coursework for the requisite training and experience necessary for State Defense Force engineers. The curriculum is designed to provide the applicant with a defined pathway to credentialing that meets the Mission Essential Tasks (METs) of the individual state defense force.
Qualification Levels
The Academy awards the Engineer Specialist Badge at three levels. The curriculum aligns with the FEMA National Qualification System (NQS) resource typing for Public Works and Hazard Mitigation professionals.
Basic Engineer Qualification
Criteria aligned with FEMA "Civil Engineer" (Public Works), SGAUS Field Skills, & Enlisted Core.
1. Prerequisites & Education:
- SGAUS Membership: Member in good standing.
- SDF Basic Training: Initial Entry Training complete.
- Professional Degree: Bachelor's in engineering, architecture, or technical trade license/certification.
2. FEMA / ICS Training:
Requirement: Completion of MEMS Basic.
Note: The MEMS Basic Badge curriculum satisfies the standard FEMA ICS course requirements (IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800).3. Medical & Safety (OSHA or Equivalent):

4. Field Skills & Leadership:

| Sanitation | Army Field Sanitation (or equivalent 4-hour course) |

5. Validation:
| Position Task Book | Upload completed Basic Engineer PTB with all required evaluator sign-offs. |
Senior Engineer Qualification
Criteria aligned with FEMA "Hazard Mitigation Specialist" & Leadership Core.
1. Prerequisite:
Must hold the Basic Engineer Qualification.

Demonstrated experience in benefit-cost analysis, mitigation project scoping, and post-disaster damage evaluation.
5. Validation:

Master Engineer Qualification
Strategic Engineering & Command Leadership
Status: TBD
Criteria for the Master Engineer Qualification is currently under determination by the SGAUS Engineer Academy.
Pending requirements may include advanced FEMA E-Series courses, Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure, and field command experience.
