- PURPOSE: SGAUS Expert Medical Badge (EMB) is a special badge that recognizes qualified SGAUS medical personnel who demonstrate a high degree of professional medical skill and proficiency. It recognizes medical and medical administrative personnel who can perform emergency medical tasks, common soldier tasks that support medical care in the field, and promotes esprit de corps.
- Wearing of the EMB is subject the regulations of your SDF (as is MEMS).
- Be a member in good standing of a State Defense Force (SDF) and SGAUS, and have completed the requirements for the Basic MEMS Badge.
- Be recommended by your SDF Medical Command via application.
- Complete and submit an EMB application to the Medical Academy (with endorsement from your SDF Medical Command).
- Meet your SDF Height and Weight Standard or the SGAUS EMB Q Course standard.
- Successfully complete the SGAUS EMB Qualification Course (Q Course) either at the Basic, Senior, or Master levels at a location published by SGAUS Medical Academy.
- BASIC EMB: This Q Course that will be offered and instructed over a 2 day period to include a NAEMT Tactical Combat Casualty Care Course (TCCC) Certification, AHA BLS with AED certification course, and a Land Navigation course. Conducted at a published SGAUS Location.
- SENIOR EMB: Completed the BASIC EMB Q course prior, possess a valid State Medical License, complete the SGSUS offered in residence 2 day NAEMT Q Course and possess a current BLS with AED Certificate. Conducted at a published SGAUS Location.
- MASTER EMB: Completed the BASIC EMB Q Course prior, possess a valid State Medical License as a Doctors of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic (DO), Physician Assistants (PA), or Nurse Practitioners (NP). Complete the SGAUS offered in residence 2 day NAEMT Q Course and possess a current BLS with AED Certificate. Conducted at a published SGAUS Location.
- The completion of ALL SGAUS approved Qualification Courses (Q Courses) will be conducted at a State Base or Camp (TNARNG Volunteer Training Site – Smyrna (VTS-S)), with berthing in barracks (if desired), meals at the Dining Facility (DFAC), and base classrooms.
- Conducted annually and;
- Conducted over one weekend, with check-in on Friday with a group dinner, and graduation on Sunday late afternoon.
- Meet height/weight standards as outlined in the individual’s State Defense Force (SDF) regulations and if none exist the SGAUS EMB Standard will be followed.
- Verified on the SGAUS EMB application.
- No exceptions and no waivers will be granted.
- Testing will consist of NAEMT skill lanes and appropriate pre and post tests from the specific Q Courses.
- BASIC EMB ONLY; Candidate must successfully complete the Land Navigation course, written examination covering written and lecture materials (with a passing grade of 80% or higher) and pass the land navigation practical course using a Military Lensatic Compass (not provided)
- The EMB will be presented at an appropriate awards ceremony.
- The SGAUS EMB will be worn on the field and dress uniform in accordance to guidelines outlined in the U.S. Army Regulation 670-1 (other components will refer to applicable federal and SDF regulations).
- The SGAUS EMB will be worn after federal badges but before SGAUS MEMS badge.
- If eligible to wear the U.S. Army Expert Field Medical Badge (EFMB), upon successful completion and awarding of SGAUS EMB, the recipient may wear the SGAUS EMB or the US Army EFMB, but not both simultaneously on the uniform.
- Wearing of the EMB is subject the regulations of your SDF (as is MEMS).
