SGAUS Emergency Medical Badge Eligibility Requirements

  SGAUS EMERGENCY MEDICAL BADGE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

 PURPOSE:

The SGAUS Expert Medical Badge (EMB) is a special badge that recognizes qualified SGAUS medical personnel who demonstrate a high degree of professional skill, and proficiency. It recognizes medical personnel who can perform emergency medical tasks, common soldier tasks that support medical care in the field, and promotes esprit de corps.

ELIGIBIILTY:
1. Be a member in good standing of a State Defense Force and SGAUS and have completed the requirements for the Basic MEMS Badge.
2. Be recommended by battalion level equivalent or higher commander.
3. Complete and submit an EMB application (to be developed) to Medical Academy.
4. Successfully complete the SGAUS Field Casualty Care Provider or Instructor course:
5. Possess a current medical certificate, license, and or specialty:
a. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Basic level certificate (State or National Registry) or higher certificate (e.g., intermediate or paramedic) or license,               or;
b. Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Dentist (D.D.S. or D.M.D.) or;
c. Mid-level practitioner (e.g., Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner), or CRNA;
d. Other medical or health care personnel (e.g. Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician, Veterinary Technician,                  Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker Behavioral Health) .
6. Possess a current Basic Life Support (CPR) card from a nationally recognized agency (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
7. Possess a current prehospital or higher trauma curriculum completion card, or letter of audit, at the basic or advanced level as appropriate for specialty or support position:
a. Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) for physicians and mid-level practitioners.
b. Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), or Tactical Combat Casualty Care Course (TCCC) for EMTs,                      Paramedics, and other health care professionals, SGAUS Combat Life Saver Course for non-medical support personnel).
c. Trauma Nursing Core Corse (TNCC) for nurses.
8. Completion of an approved Qualification Course (Q Course) (to be developed) conducted at a State Base or Camp (e.g. Camp Bowie, Camp Swift, Camp Maxie, Fort Wolters in Texas, or Camp Atterbury in Indiana) as directed by the EMB SOP or as directed by the appropriate State Defense Force CG;:
a. Conducted annually and;
b. Conducted over one weekend, with check-in on Friday, and graduation on Sunday noon.
c. Meet height/weight standards as outlined in the individual’s State Defense Force (SDF) regulations.
1) To be verified at SGAUS Field Casualty Course check-in.
2) No exceptions and no waivers will be granted.
d. Testing will consist of 6 (tentative) skills from the Combat Lifesaver Course. Skills will be selected by the Lead EMB Examiner and will be revealed to the               candidates at the skill stations.
e. Candidate must successfully complete an EMB Land Navigation course and written examination covering written and lecture materials (with a passing grade          of 80% or higher).
f. Land (field) navigation course (to be developed) may include:
1) Map reading and field compass course and;
2) Urban (city) terrain navigation course (to be developed) and;
3) Global Positioning System (GPS) (city) course (to be developed) and;
4) Written examination – map reading, land navigation, and GPS (to be developed).
g. Document completion of the individual’s SDF Physical Fitness Test during previous year

AWARDING THE EMB:
1. The EMB will be presented at an appropriate awards ceremony.
2. The SGAUS EMB will be worn on the field and dress uniform in accordance to guidelines outlined in the U.S. Army Regulation 670-1 (other components will refer to applicable federal and SDF regulations).
3. The SGAUS EMB will be worn after federal badges but before SGAUS MEMS badge.
4. If eligible to wear the U.S. Army Expert Field Medical Badge (EFMB), upon successful completion and awarding of SGAUS EMB, the recipient may wear the SGAUS EMB or the US Army EFMB, but not both simultaneously on the uniform.
5. Wearing of the EMB is subject the approval of the local SDF CG/TAG (as is MEMS)
