Following up on a very successful National Field Casualty Course in Columbus IN, sponsored by the SGAUS Medical Academy and the Indiana Guard Reserve, we have another excellent training opportunity that our SGAUS Medical Academy has arranged for our State Defense Forces.LTC Julian Ungar-Sargon, Chairperson of the SGAUS Medical Academy, has arranged with New Mexico Tech (New Mexico Institute of Mining & Technology) for SGAUS SDF members to attend a “First Responder 3-day course” on “Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings” (IRTB), sponsored by FEMA and the US Department of Homeland Security. The course is planned for end of Jan 2022 at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, New Mexico and is designed for all medic and non medic first responders. While there are limited seats, SGAUS has procured a number of slots to recommend students, which should be able to accommodate interested SGAUS members in either this session or the next. All costs for this training, including travel, meals and lodging expenses, are covered by the US DHS/FEMA for first responders from state, local and tribal government agencies, which would include our SDFs. Many SDF service members have attended this training under this sponsorship.Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings (IRTB): 3 1/2 day course/27 hoursThis training prepares emergency responders to:· * React effectively, work cooperatively, and apply countermeasures in any incident involving explosives. · * Understand the terrorist threat and recognize commercial, military and homemade explosives and components/capabilities of improvised explosive devices.Information regarding limits on reimbursement for expenses is contained in the attached document (expenses covered). Please Note: COVID-19 protocols are applicable to the class and New Mexico Tech campus. Face-masks must be worn indoors at all times and upon arrival each student must show either proof of a negative COVID-19 test 2 to 5 days prior to arrival or proof of vaccination, completing applicable dosage at least 14 days prior to arrival.Steps to Register:Below are the step by step instructions to register for the course.
