2019 SGAUS FIELD CASUALTY CARE COURSE AND THE SGAUS EMERGENCY MEDICAL BADGE

———————————————————————————————–

CLARIFICATION ON THE FIELD CASUALTY CARE COURSE

This course is NOT JUST for medical licensed professionals seeking the Emergency Medical Badge (EMB). The Field Casualty Care Course is open to all SGAUS members interested in furthering their skills in Triage and providing first response to mass casualty scenarios and natural disasters affecting civilian populations.  Those NOT pursuing the EMB,  **  DO NOT  ** need to meet the prerequisites for the EMB.

————————————————————————————————————————————————

The SGAUS Board of Directors has approved a Field Casualty Care Course Curriculum as part of fulfillment of a new Emergency Medical Badge which can be earned by Physicians, Nurses, EMTs, Paramedics and other Medical Professionals who are active members of a State Defense Force (SDF) and SGAUS.

The purpose of the course is to encourage SDF medical personnel to develop first aid and first responder skills necessary to care for SDF soldiers in the field and to care for civilian casualties likely to be encountered in shelters and/or SDF deployments. Some land navigation skills are also included in the course.

Several issues should be kept in mind for those entering the program.  The Field Casualty Course and Emergency Medical Badge does not replace formal medical training and is suitable only for doctors, nurses, paramedics, EMTs and other trained medical professionals.

The awarding of the EMB is not be a replacement for the MEMS program.  The awarding of the EMB does NOT carry a credentialing certification.  The formal requirements will be posted in an accompanying document.

The inaugural Field Casualty Course, sponsored by the Indiana Guard Reserve and the 19th Medical Regiment, will take place on 6-8 Sep 2018 at Camp Atterbury IN. (45mins from Indianapolis International Airport).
